XR NEWS | EPISODE 3

I’m extremely excited and proud to bring you another episode of the XR News series that I produced, filmed & edited! In this brand-new edition of XR News, we took an in-depth look at different aspects of XR & AR. We heard how these technologies are shaping our future by changing the way we work, play, communicate and experience life. 

My role included directing the show, capturing, editing and color grading all footage, creating graphics and virtual 3D sets, handling audio mixing and mastering, and overseeing the final deliverable. A tremendous amount of effort, hard work, and dedication has gone into this ambitious project. This was a great opportunity for my XR team members at Meta to work together and bring our diverse skills to the forefront.

Producing such a show from start to finish was extremely exciting because it involved wearing so many different hats and allowed me to showcase my diverse technical and creative skillset. It was interesting to see just how much work goes into making a metaverse newscast look professional.

The XR News videos series was well received amongst our peers at Meta and has opened up new opportunities for our team to explore and expand our capabilities in the field of virtual broadcasting. Overall, this project has been a great learning experience and has further solidified my passion for creating and producing high-quality VR and MR content.

In my role as an XR producer, I am perpetually on the lookout for new methods to enhance the end product. For this particular episode, my goal was to come up with new challenges and ideas to continually push the limits of what can be achieved. With a bit of perseverance, I managed to  bring my vision to life and include everything I wanted, such as a cold open showcasing newly publicly released Avatar’s legs in Meta Horizon Worlds, and a challenging interview that took place in a flying hot air balloon.

What made the Bodhi Donselaar’s interview such a difficult part to film was the incredible complexity involved in having virtual cameras to seamlessly follow a moving object while keeping the subjects in frame and the footage stabilized, This type of VR filming has never been attempted before, making it a unique and creative addition to this episode. This innovative approach provided an excellent opportunity for TPG XR to demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking and present the audience with an unconventional method of conducting Metaverse interviews, deviating from traditional norms. 

Furthermore, I’m particularly satisfied with how the final audio mix turned out. Although it was difficult to maintain audio consistency throughout the different segments of this episode shot within different days, I was able to accomplish some audio homogeneity with the help of some of my favorite audio plugins and AI Tools! As a result, All audio clips sound fantastic creating the illusion that they were all recorded using the same  top-notch equipment on the same day.
