HORIZON WORLDS SAFETY VIDEO
As the lead producer of the XR team at Meta, I had the privilege of spearheading one of the most ambitious projects to date: the Horizon Worlds Safety Video. This project, a critical asset for Meta’s first-party VR app, Horizon Worlds, was a monumental effort that required extensive collaboration across many different teams. Our goal was to replace an outdated animated safety video with a contemporary, product-accurate version that highlights both the safety features and the immersive capabilities of Horizon Worlds.
From initial concept to final delivery, I led the charge, ensuring that we produced a high-quality video that set new standards for what is achievable in the Metaverse. This project showcased the unique strengths of MetaXR, including our VR expertise, comprehensive production capabilities, and the ability to scale for large productions. One of the biggest challenges we faced was the tight post-production schedule, which was critical to meet the Horizon Teens launch date. By leveraging the 12-hour time difference between New York and Singapore, I implemented a seamless workflow where footage captured during the day in New York was handed off to our APAC team, who then began post-production at the start of their day. This efficient process was instrumental in maintaining our tight schedule, and I am immensely grateful to the APAC team for their exceptional support.
Throughout this project, several vital contributions made a significant impact. The expertise in POV capture and avatar blocking ensured our in-VR shots were seamless, while detailed editorial notes, even amidst multitasking, kept the project on track. Stellar camera work consistently elevated the visual quality, and meticulous coordination of post-production prep streamlined our processes. Exceptional project preparation made editing an efficient and enjoyable experience. Strong leadership and vision provided guidance and inspiration, while creative vision and direction propelled the project forward. Effective recruitment and organization of our cast and extras ensured smooth operations and creative insights added significant value to the final product. Steady and reliable support maintained our momentum, and accurate product knowledge kept our content precise. Last-minute UI fixes were crucial in finalizing the video.
Our main cast displayed incredible dedication and enthusiasm, particularly during long days in VR. The lead role was performed with unwavering commitment, contributing significantly to the success of the production. This project was a testament to what we can achieve through teamwork, creativity, and dedication. It raised the bar for future productions in Horizon Worlds and showcased the best of what Meta has to offer.
